Is $$\dfrac{8}{9}$$ the multiplicative inverse of $$-1\dfrac{1}{8}$$? Why or why not?

Solution

If it is a multiplicative inverse, then the product $$=1$$

$$\dfrac{8}{9}\times\begin{pmatrix}-1\dfrac{1}{8}\end{pmatrix}=\dfrac{8}{9}\times\dfrac{-9}{8}=-1$$

Product $$=-1$$

$$\therefore$$ It is not a multiplicative inverse.
