Subjective Type

Write notes on cis-trans isomerism with suitable example.

Solution

Cis-trans isomerism is also called geometric isomerism. Cis means "this side of " and trans mean " Other side of " in Latin. Cis-trans isomers are stereoisomers that is pair of molecules having same formula but different geometry. In cis-trans isomerism free rotation is restricted thats why double bond/cyclic ring compounds can show cis-trans isomerism.
