The density of a gas is 10 times more than that of hydrogen. The molecular weight of gas $$X$$ is___________.

Solution

Since at STP 1 mole of a gas occupies 22.4 L. Therefore at STP both hydrogen and the other gas will occupy 22.4 L, so the dense gas have mass equal to 10 times that of hydrogen.

$$density=\dfrac{mass}{volume}$$

$$mass= volume\times density$$

Therefore, $$mass\ of\ gas = mass\ of\ H_2 \times density = 2 \times10=20$$
